At last, long last.
the confettie floated from the rafters. The Red Wings were Stanley Cup champions, for the first time since 1955, 10 years before Yzerman was born. They had swept the Pfiladelphia Flyers in four games, with sheer ice control, faith and discipline. Yzerman hesitated with the Cup uncertain. And then he raised it toward his teammates and the cheering rised. He caressed it and put it above his head again, pumped it upward in triumph. Then he skated around the ice at Joe Louis Arena proud to be the captain of the championship team the Detroit Red Wings.
